I have a 2002 Z06, 30k miles. Stock except for Blackwing intake. Under acceleration, I have a fairly loud fluttering friction spinning sound (very hard to describe). It is loudest in 1st and 2nd especially when at higher rpms probably because at higher speeds, the noise of the road and exhaust overpowers it.
At speed, when I push the clutch pedal in and coast, the sound is still present, but if I put the car in neutral and let off the clutch, the sound immediately stops. While still coasting, when I start to put in gear again, the noise returns even if the clutch pedal remains depressed.
Have you recently changed transmission fluid? First thing would be to check the fluid level, and if you haven't changed it recently, throw some new fluid in.
Do the same for the differential fluid while you're at it, just to be sure. There is no sense trying to diagnose further until these can be confirmed.
I have replaced both the diff and transmission fluid recently. I topped both of them off after allowing the fluid to settle. Still, I will check both before I do anything else. Thank you
If it is the throw out bearing or pressure plate, we are talking about replacing whole clutch and associated parts, right?

You do not have to replace the clutch to replace the throwout bearing and slave assembly. It slips right onto the front of the propshaft.
Ok, don't judge me but when I replaced my differential a month ago, apparently I did not torque down the bolts for the exhaust mount in front of the cats. The bolts loosened enough that they fell out. I replaced them tonight and although the noise is still there somewhat, it is no longer harsh and sounds almost normal. I did check the tranny fluid and it is full and clean. Case closed and thank you for your help. Love this forum.

Nah, no judging here, at least not by me. It's an honest mistake and it can happen to anyone.
