Hi all,
Anyone out there replaced their stock batt tray for one that totally encases the battery in case of leakage? I recently ripped into the frame and grinded off the old acid leak damage, repainted, etc. I would like to either fabricate a tray that will effectively contain any future leak before it drips down below or buy an already made part like this for our C5's. Any advice would be appreciated.
I agree, It would probably be cheaper to buy a sealed battery rather than custom a tray in. If your battery is old, then its defiantly a better alternative.
I just replaced the battery in my C5 and decided to add a battery acid spill mat in the tray. This should absorb any leakage from the battery.
the only catch is that you need to trim the edge (away from the clamp side) so the bracket holding down the battery (by the bottom battery ledge) doesn't have to fight the height of the mat.
I bought the spill mat on ebay in bright yellow (not that you can
see it after you install it).
Hi all,
Thx for the replies. I actually have an Optima red Top installed, and have for years now. I was not aware that these will NEVER leak any kind of chem, but am glad to know that. I just wanted to ensure that, if anything comes out of the dayum batt, that it doesn't drip down and I have to rip apart the car again to grind frame/repaint, check pcm, etc. Installing a fully enclosed, bullet-proof glass/kryptonite box now!

Never say never ... but yeah, an Optima is less risk of leakage, but it can still happen.
