Default Tpms and non run flats

I checked in search but could not find. Why will tire shops not install non run flat tires and leave the tpms in tact? I want to switch to non run flats but not at the cost of deactivating this system

I agree. Find a different shop. My Z06 didn't come stock with TPMS and they don't come stock with runflats. Discount tire didn't bat an eye to install non run flats after installing my TPMS sensors.

I agree with the others, go to a different shop. There is no law saying you can't put non-run flat tires on your car.

We have 2 discount tires being built but none open yet LesSchwab says they won't do it same with Commercial tire. I'll try Costco or wait till Discount opens

Having the TMPS system is much more important with non runflats.

If you loose pressure in a conventional tire, chances are your Tpms sensor will look like it got run over by a car. :p Sooo, my guess is that some tire shops cop out on installing the tires because there's a 1:1000000 chance someone might say the tpms failure is their fault if they have a tire go down. They don't want to pay for your sensor, and they send you down the road.

Good guess anyway...

This. I actually don't have tmps right now, but since I have runflats at the moment, it isn't a priority at all. I will wait til I buy new tires and do them both at the same time.

If anything, tpms comes in handy a lot more with non runflats so you can monitor pressures so I dont see why it would be a problem or why they would care. Most new cars now have tpms regardless of tire type.

Never heard of this. When I bought my Hankooks online I went to three tire shops to discuss mounting the tires and not one mentioned anything about TPMS functions changing. The one I selected made sure the tires were mounted so that the wheels all went back on in the same locations ( no right to left switching on an axle ) so no need to retrain the TPMS system. These people were paying attention to all the details and the tires / wheels / handling characteristics are superb.

And yes the TPMS system is that much more important with non run flats. If I get a flat and destroy a sensor in the process (unlikely in my opinion) then that's on me - can't see why anyone could blame the installer.

They are actually required on all new passenger vehicles. TPMS is good for all tires. I installed and activated them on my 02Z...sure is handy.

True. My new Chrysler 200 S has them with non-runflat GY LS2 tires. Funny avatar btw.

To me it is more important to have the TPMS with the runflats.

I have a set of runflats and a set of non-runflats. When the tire pressure gets low, I can see it on the non-runflats, but I have to check the runflats with a gage quite often because I can't see it in the sidewall when it is low.

So I really want TPMS on the runflats.

On the non-runflats I have driven for decades without TPMS and it is not an issue, but TPMS is a nice gadget and is a convenience, but I am not sure it is worth the cost.

Like others have said, the OP should find another shop. There is no good reason for what they are doing.
