I have finally purchased a car I have always wanted. I have a 1999 Frc with 50000 miles on it and in very nice condition. I would like to bump the hp up to about 450 hp, but searching on here has me wondering where to start and what to get. I don't want to supercharge it, just want some nice headers, cat back with a nice rumble, streetable cam and the have it tuned. I am going to keep searching and hopefully come up with a wish list. Anybody that wants to throw some ideas my way would be appreciated. Thanks
450whp... You will find yourself spending as much as a supercharger costs in the long run. It will also be way more streetable, emissions friendly, and powerful.
But If your minds set on internals, You will need heads built with dual valve springs capable of high lift; because you are going to need a cam on the aggressive side to reach 450 wheel. They will most likely need CNC ported and decked to up the compression too.
You will need an LS6, or better intake (FAST intake), Long tube headers, larger TB, etc (All Bolt on's basically to support the internal mods.) The cam itself will be in the 230's area of duration from what I have seen.
Then you will need LS7 lifters, LS2 lifter trays, push rods, rocker trunions or full roller rockers, double roller timing chain, new oil pump, new balancer/bolt, maybe water pump while your at it, gaskets, head bolts, and the list goes on.
The car will be far less streetable, more work is involved, and less power will be made while putting more stress on the valve train. After market valve springs will be good for 20k-30k miles depending on the severity of the lift of the cam.
My 00 puts down 440rwhp, this is what I had to to to make it happen.
Vararam, FAST, TSP 228R, PRC Stage 2.5 heads milled to give 11:1 compression,
LS2 trays, LS7 lifters, under drive pulley, PRC dual valve springs, upgraded rocker trunions, new oil pump, long tubes, Lashway Motorsports in Ft Lauderdale tuned it so that it drives just like a stock car and if it were not for the mild idle noise change you wouldnt know the difference between it and a stock one. AT 30mph, I can go through a parking lot in 5th gear without any bucking. Now once I added up all the parts and labor I could have supercharged. I dont want to think about it.

Congrats. Sounds like you have a plan but if you want to get help here on the forum, you must post pics!!

I will as soon as I get a nice day and take pics of the car instead of going for a ride... I think I may tone down the hp hunt and just get some exhaust help a mild cam and lifters. I can be very happy with that..

We like pictures.
Congratulations on the FRC. I have a '99 FRC also and love it.
I did some of the things you wanted to try on another '99. It has a vararam, FAST intake, LG longtubes and x-pipe, B&B catback, and a tune. These really woke it up. It runs much better now, but still not to your 450 hp target (maybe 400 if I am lucky). I am leaving a lot of HP out without a cam and heads that should make an even bigger difference. Mine is very mild with a stock idle and low rpm is usable for everyday driving and gets great mileage but it still runs in the high 12's.
There are lots of ways to modify it. Look at what a lot of people have done and their results to find what is best for you.
Congrats man. I had the mod bug on my last ride. An 06 GTO with all internals. In hindsite wish I would have went the FI route instead. Good luck on what you decide. There are some great members here to help. My current ride will remain close to stock. Keep us posted.
