Default Driveshaft and coupler problems

Guys I have a quick question. I did a search and didn't see exactly what I am looking for. I have a '03 Z06 with a ttix kit that just made 890 whp on a dynojet the other day. Needless to say I had clutch problems and picked up a vibration. Of course I though it was the couplers. I removed the clutch and torque tube last night. The clutch problem is from a leaking rear main seal. The torque tube couplers need replaced but here is the question. There is a plastic guide or ring in the middle of the driveshaft. That has been rubbing only on one side. Is this just a result of the bad couplers or is the driveshaft bent.

It can do that due to high rpm's. Every shaft turns into a skipping rope when it reaches a certain rpm. You just need to check the shaft for run-out. A couple of V blocks and a dial indicator would do it.

Thanks for the info. I will check it today. Do you know what the acceptable limit is for a driveshaft. I am guessing under .005?

Agreed. Mine walked all the way to the end of the shaft but the prop shaft was straight. I replaced the bushings with DSS poly bushings and I highly recommend them for your use.

I got a complete bearing and poly coupler kit from RMP transmission on the way right now. I also got their converter drive plate, but you wont need that for the M6. Id give them or RKT a call and discuss what to do while its opened up. What upgrades to the transmission and diff do you have? Do you at least hardened input and output shafts?

Well I checked the run out during lunch. .018. I guess that is out of spec. I can't find a spec but that seems like too much to me. Any way to answer your question. The trans is a stock M12. The rear has hardened shafts and the C6 Z06 springs and clutch set. I also have a DTE strut brace. I have a TH400 conversion for the car but I really like shifting and take it to the beach a couple of times a year. Without the overdrive it is not too practical but will be great for the track. I haven't decided what to do yet tr6060, 4l80, or th400.
