Default MAF... MAP... Open/Closed loop cycles

Phew... been doing a lot of reading and searching but havent been able to find a clear description of this! I need a lot of education!!!

Im a recent older mustang convert. The old MAF cars would not run if it went out. I have a MAP based standalone on that car now. As these cars ran on one or the other it was kind of easier to pinpoint the problems with it!!

Now after some reading... these C5 vettes have both MAF and MAP sensors...

So to the problem...

My new to me 2k vette is throwing a consistent P0102 code. Ive only started to work on the car this week have not gotten to the point of cleaning all of the grounds (waiting for jacking pucks). The car has stalled on me once, but otherwise drives pretty well. It doesnt seem to have any idle or driveability issues, except for the one time when it stalled. When that happened it seemed to hiccup then shut off. Started up right away, shut off again. Did this a couple of times then but has been running again ever since (few days)

I have cleaned the MAF element using a MAF cleaner... checked and changed the PCV.

Checked the fuse.

The car seems to idle and rev perfectly fine with the mass air disconnected!!

I will be checking for power and ground continuity at the MAF later on today.

Im trying to understand how the MAF and MAP work together in this car and when open and closed loop cycles come into play. Any insight into this would be great!

Is it correct to assume that with a P0102 code that the car is running in some kind of default mode and is operating solely off of the MAP sensor?

I havent had a "reduced power" indicator come on yet... but then again, I havent really laid into it very hard.

I assume you do not have a service manual?

Give it a shot, the FBI shuts down the sites frequently. If you PM me your email, I can send you some reading.

It'd likely be stupidly easy to troubleshoot with some type of scanner that could read sensor values....

Yesterday I picked up a replacement MAF, and before installing it I checked power at the fuse and power/ground at the MAF plug.

Swapped out the MAF... everything works now as it should! 15 minute job!

lucky131969 provided me with some useful information about how this PCM works with both MAF and MAP!

Thanks!! Learning as we go!
