Small backfires when not pushing the gas, normal?!
I noticed it just yesterday (the car is new to me), and when driving at S mode, it't easy to notice that.
The car is 09 Z51 with magnaflow exhaust system.
When pushing the gas you dont hear a thing, but when you live it and the RPM drops then you hear some small backfires, same thing happens when you downshift gear in S mode.
Don't get me wrong, I love that sound!!! but it's normal? or it's a sign for problems.
I'm using regular fuel and I got a tune for it so it supposed to be OK.
What you are hearing is definitely not backfiring. The slight popping sound you hear when letting off the gas is normal. This is a little more pronounced with aftermarket exhausts because they are usually freeflowing and open (non baffled) in design. I like the sound myself. But, for people that don't, an aftermarket X-pipe usually gets rid of most of the popping on decel.
I, like you, also have a magnaflow catback and I used to have slight popping on decel. Unfortunately, once I installed the Corsa x-pipe, it pretty well disappeared. I used to love the popping between gears but I had to replace the stock H-pipe because of the infamous exhaust rattle that it produced.
PS: Make sure that all of your exhaust connections are tight. Any small exhaust leak will also accentuate the popping sound on decel.
