Default clutch chatter any advice ??

2003 z06 heads, cam, long tubes, cold air, rpm trans and rear diff

I do not know what clutch is in the car, I just bought it, but the
clutch engages about a quarter off the floor and is like a button it is all out or it is all in, when you push in the clutch there is no noise, when you let out the clutch and in neutral, just sitting there idling it chatters like crazy,
old school thought to me is throw out bearing???

I want to know if I should spend the money to take the car apart? to replace the throw out bearing and inspect the clutch? when the clutch seems to be working fine, no slipping, but it is very much like a button when you let it out it is just pow its all the way out.

I personally woudn't worry about it. Sounds like a good clutch is the in car as one should be with your mods. It is very normal for a good clutch to do all the things you're describing (my car does the exact same thing). I was in your exact same situation. Bought a modded Z but didn't know specifics. Clutch mechanically was fine but chattered and wined when engaged while cold. I swapped my exhaust and while I was doing that I pulled the inspection cover and discovered the car had a Spec 3 clutch and new slave etc. which I was happy about.

If you're that concerned get the car in the air, get the headers and exhaust loose or off the car and pull the inspection cover. You'll be able to see everything. I would recommend just enjoying the car right now because like I mentioned eariler you probably just have an upgraded clutch in the car that has those characteristics. If you have time though pulling the inspection cover is the only way to see what is going on and exacly what you have.

Ok, that is a good thought. I will try that first. That makes since. So where exactly is the inspection plate?
And does your clutch work like mine all or nothing? And also mine is loud all the time even when it is warm?

My SPEC twin disk makes a lot of noise until it warms up a bit. All my friends gave me crap for putting it in, so now when I pull out of their driveways or leave a meet I always yell "TWIN DISK BRO" out of the window to prove them right.

I should have gone with a single disk for street driving. Coming from the DSM/EVO world, bad clutches are a way of life, and the high performance ones suck just as bad as stock ones, just in different ways.

Sorry to chime in and hijack the thread. My clutch doesn't seem to slip so I assume it's fine. My car will shake, kind of a chatter throughout the whole car, when easing off the line or backing up. Especially backing up a grade. It also makes noise with the clutch all the way out at low rpms even if the car doesn't shake. It's a stock 97' Z51. I changed the trans and diff fluid this spring and it did not help. Car will turn 50K today while driving it to work. I've heard the noise is common on these transmissions but not so sure about the shaking. Motor mounts? Torque Tube Bushings? Transmission Mount? Anyone else have this issue?
