The shifter **** on our A4 kind of "rocks" on the lever. It seems like it's securly attached, in that it doesn't feel like it would come off, but it will rock forward to back (not side to side). This seems like it would be an easy fix, but I don't even see where/how you would remove the ****. Any help out there?
There is a heavy gauge staple on the front (dashboard) side of the ****. You pull that out with a flat-blade screwdriver and the **** comes off.
I agree, the thing rocks back and forth, creating a cheap feel. It hasn't really bugged me, but one of these days I'll probably pull it off and run a bead of silicone caulk around the inside to take up the slack.
You can see how to remove the shift **** on the installation instructions for Vette Essentials custom leather shift boot for the automatic transmission shifter. All of the installation instructions are at: http://www.vetteessentials.com/instr...tructions.html
3BVert, I went to remove the staple form the shift **** and I could not see the staple at all. from your picture (4b) the staple head is right on the front of the slot which you can see from your picture. Now if this is the case and the staple on my shift has broken or falling out, what could be holding the shift **** on the shaft? Do you have any idea where I could get a replacement clip?
