Default Started the Head and Cam Project....

Well I finally got all of the parts ordered for my head and cam upgrade. I posted a week ago about what I had planned and it seems to be turning out better than I expected as far as price goes. Here is what I ordered:

Comp Cams timing chain
Rev Stainless Steel Valves(2.02/1.57s || cut stems)
Rev Seats/Locators
Rev Titanium Retainers
Rev Dual Valve Springs >.600 lift
MMS 229/229 .578/.578 114lsa
LS6 intake manifold with hardware
LS6 2002 cylinder heads 625/ea
LS6 2002 Keepers
LS6 2002 Intake valve seals
LS6 2002 Exhaust valve seals
LS1 Cylinder head bolts
LS1 Cylinder head gaskets
Column Lock bypass (one of four left) :yesnod:
ASP underdrive pulley/belt ;)
<waiting to order> Cartek Clutch/SLP billet steel flywheel

I am going to have one of the local pro stock motor builders help me with the cylinder head. Basically, I ended up with a built LS6 heads for 1700. Any words of wisdom or things I missed. What kind of lube do I need to use on the cam when I install it? I have seen pictures of people using a white or a red lube. <shooting for 10s on the bottle> :yesnod:

I have already hired two guys for traction. Mickey and Thompson.

If anyone is interested here is our plan for the heads:
1> Port match intake to intake manifold
2> Port intake runner to matched intake inlet 1-2" into runner
3> Port/polish valve guides/pockets/bowls/short side runner(intake/exhaust)
4> Port/polish exhaust runner removing
5> Port match exhaust runner to LT header
6> Polish combustion chamber
7> Smooth edges on combustion chamber
8> Machine shop => Valve job/prepare head for larger heads
9> Mill head .030
10> Intake valves to be machined on lathe

I guess I would be very optimistic to see 460rwhp like Cartek but I am shooting for 430-450rwhp after its dyno tuned. Cheers!

You dont need cam lube. Just put a little motor oil on the cam before insertion and you are set to go. I just installed my heads...its about a 6-7 hour job or so. Piece of cake.

Phil,
I am in the middle of my head and cam project now, I hope to get a lot done this weekend. I have the heads, crank puley ,front cover, and rack off, I hope to swap cams and start going back together with it on Saturday.
Good luck with yours, several guys on the forum have been a great deal of help.
Shawn

if you are going to mill .030 off the heads you may have piston to valve clearance problems with that big cam.
Best of luck, sounds like a fun project :)
