Default Had Vara Ram installed

Had a local guy install the Vara Ram for me. Got the car back this afternoon. He left the shroud off the front of the radiator. Said it wouldn't go back on. Is this accurate? Am I going to have a overheating issue?

All the cars Ive seen with vararams had the shroud still. It forces air through the rad and ac condenser. You will most likely see higher temps without. It should be on.

I just put mine on and the shroud was tight but went back on.

When I installed my Vararam I followed Forum member cajundude's instructions. Here's a link w/pics on the install, you might want to show this to your installer. Hope this help's you out.

its hard to get it on but it WILL go on. and you SHOULD get it on. ran mine for a week with it off. it would run from 212-230 instead of 196 like it should. and it wasn't 110* summer heat either.

I wouldn't let him put headers on the car. He might leave the starter off.

Maybe it's not his fault. He's probably not used to installing cheaply-made aftermarket components that don't fit properly. ......

I'm leaving now.......

The shroud is necessary and should be installed. I didn't remove mine at all. The VRB2 fit perfectly with patience and perseverance and went in without issue. I agree that the quality isn't what I expected but it is certainly functional.

I see that you have a 2002. Your installer probably installed the vararam scoops without spacers between the scoops and the front facia, as shown in the picture (A). On 2002 and latter models, this will result in the bumper bar forcing the upper part of the scoops (B in the picture)to pitch to much towards the radiator which prevents the shroud from fitting properly. A 1/4" spacer installed between the scoop and the front facia will correct the situation.

I have had this shop do some other work for me on other cars and he has always done really good work. I would have done this myself but for health reasons I couldn't install this at this time. I will call him Monday and take the car back to him.

LOL, talking about this issue, make sure the filter is sealed to the upper duct. I know the green filter and upper housing combo they gave me did not seal and could let dirt past. After putting the filter in the upper housing there were gaps between the gasket and the filter om all 4 sides.

VRB1 here and it was a tight fit but everything went back on. I wouldn't run with out the shroud. That's what directs your airflow through the radiator.

Mine is an '02 and my shroud went back on with ease, but it was a tight fit. I didn't use a spacer.

The following is from the Vararam Installation Instructions
"THE SPACERS- there is NO set in stone alignment on a C-5 so use this as a guide. We do
not fit any spacers on 97-2000 cars 01-04’s we use 1 or 2 max however there is variation from car
to car , so simply use them if needed"

Dropped off the car this morning. By 10 am he called and said the shroud was back in. All is good with the car now.
