Default LS2 TB P&P worth it?

I have the Amazon special AC-Delco LS2 TB on the way and am considering turning around and sending it out to Shaner for a P&P before I get the itch to get the install underway. (Still need to order intake though).

I'm looking for info from people who have done this and suggestions on a few possibilities I am planning.

Does anyone know if the LS2 TB can be ported to 92mm? Or at least be made to port match a FAST 92mm intake? I am pretty set on the new style FAST 92mm intake.

The reason I ask if it is worth it is that even in its stock state, the 92mm TB may be able to flow more than enough CFM for a 346 CID engine. So Porting my be a waste of time. But I can see some benefit to making it port match the 92mm intake.

Thoughts?

I would make sure whoever is porting it has experience as a reputable porter for the electric TBs. Almost every ported electric TB we have dealt with has been difficult to tune idle wise. For the small horsepower gain I personally would have a hard time getting it done unless I knew it was not going to have those kinds of issues. High idle has been very common.

I agree with Texas Speed. Taking out material where material shouldn’t be taken out has a detrimental effect.
The answer to your question lies within yourself. I asked myself the same question and here’s how I answered it.
I just spent $6K in parts on my latest build. I was only going to use high end parts so my search started on finding the cheapest price on those high end parts (that’s how I directed you to Amazon for the LS2 TB because they were $100 cheaper than anybody else in one of your other threads). To make a long story short by the time I collected all my parts I was at $6k. So I asked myself, do I want to port the TB and FAST I just bought or just install. I searched and searched for the answer to the same question you asked and knowing the delay it was going to take to get my build done. So the search resulted in no power gains porting the TB but throttle response was noticeable. I guess one can say I have better throttle response but I don’t know a measuring devise to measure throttle response. So then I asked myself “you just spent $6K on parts (I’m my own mechanic) do you want to leave anything on the table with these new parts. Or do you want to squeeze every single HP out of all these parts. Well, I didn’t want to leave anything on the table with that price tag. Only one person would I let port my Tb and new $800 FAST was SpinMonster. So I connected with Spin and he quoted me a price. So I asked myself with everything I have spent to date am I going to let Spins quote (which was minimal) compared to what I already spent and always wonder IF I could of got more out of it if I ported the TB and intake. The intake was a given (as FAST shows you where to port) the TB was another story. Spins price was reasonable and it didn’t even register to what I already spent. It did take second guessing myself “what if” out of the equation.

Hope this helps. I will answer your other questions but don’t want to make this any longer than it is.

I agree with above - be very careful with PP of the TB -

If can swing a FAST 102 manifold do that over anything else - look over the comparison flow chart below and you'll see why

Thanks guys. I have been aware of the Amazon price for the TB for a long while now, just finally pulled the trigger. I just got the throttle today and saw how much easier to port it is than the LS1/LS6 TB. I will be doing it myself again. I did my TB and know where to port and where over-porting occurs. Its obvious where the opening needs done. I have had great success with 4 TBs on various drive by wire cars. No problems with idle have come of it.

The only part i cant do perfectly would be on the back side to get a perfect 92mm cut to port match to the intake. I will try to find a company that can do that. If not it is not to big a deal. i will just port and polish it up and use it as it is. I think it will be a great setup.

I understand that the 102mm intake flows better. It is larger, so its a no brainer. But Dynos for our engines specifically show the greatest gain comes from the 90-92mm intakes. It also has a greater potential to keep low end power which I am all about. According to TPiS the 102mm loses slightly on the low end but is the way to go with very high hp applications. That is why I was deciding between the LS6 intake with a 90mm snout, or a FAST 92mm.
