I have been reading some of the old posts on the powerloader from Steve Cole. I saw a bunch of posts about wait times, and most said it was real good for the A4 cars. But what exactly does it do to make the A4 better? How does the car run afterward? I am familiar with custom programming with my Impala, but I am curious as to what the powerloader actually changes. I know the hypertechs don't do much at all (at least not for Impalas). Thanks
Re: What exactly does a powerloader do??? (Tirpitz)
Do a search on Powerloader in the C5 tech section.
Basically what it does is change existing parameters of your PCM (the cars computer) .
The powerloader is a unit that is sent to you that you plug into your cars computer slot and overwrites your stock program. Your stock program is lost and can only be retrieved if a dealer flashes it for you. The Powerloader is specific for your car's VIN # and the mods YOU have on your car.
It eliminates soft unsure shifts makes the shifts very quick and firm (snaps your neck in a good way), raises the shift points (mine shifts at 6200 at WOT) , raises the rev limmiter to 6500, Removes Torque Management so your car doesn't rob you of power in order to save gas mileage and for safety reasons. If you have certain mods, he adjusts for those. I am about to send mine back because of the 3.42's and TC I will be putting in soon.
The Powerloader is about $450 for the initial unit and any future modifications/re-programs that you have to send back after the initial one is $75.
The initial unit comes pretty quick 4-6 weeks, mine came in 3, but reprograms might take 3-6 months or more!!?!?!?
Hope this helps. It makes your car feel like a different car and was the single best mod I did for my car in the SOTP department. Be wary of the customer service or lack there of!!!

Eric,Your better off taking the car to a tuner with LS1 edit. The car will be dyno tuned on the spot and not have any guess work involved. You then can see exactly what the changes have done for you.
Re: What exactly does a powerloader do??? (wallstAL)
Personally, the Powerloader is the way to go. Just get it initially programmed for your mods and do them all at once, otherwise you may be like me and on your fourth month waiting for a simple reprogram for 3.42s, Transgo and SY3500 TC.
Other than that the Powerloader was the best thing I have done for my car hands down!!!
