Just installed Katech Ported THrottle Body........
Just got the part today (on a group purchase for $100!) - the piece looks very nice - it is CNC ported, with the blade knife-edged and the butterfly milled down......I didn't think I would feel any real difference, but I was surprised! Throttle response was greatly enhanced and I feel like the car moves a little better (kind of like it does in cool weather)....I'd say I gained 5-10 rwhp with it - we shall see on dyno day!

OMG!!! i didn't think that a ported throttle body made that much of a difference over a stock unit. with all my mods, maybe i should go to one too.
Re: Just installed Katech Ported THrottle Body........ (robsvette)
we have dynoed an average gain of 7hp with the Katech ported tb on head and cam cars. Thats why we stock em! More gain on big cube motors, less on non head and cam cars.

Nate - question: is it normal for the car to surge upon startup with the ported TB? My rpms jump way up when I start the car, then settle down about 5-10 seconds later.......do I need to do an idle relearn or something? It never did that with the stock TB..........thanks for your help!

My car does the same thing... I also have the Katech Throttle Body.
Re: Just installed Katech Ported THrottle Body........ (OliverM5)
My brother's ported TB did this and it was because there was too much air getting past the IAC so it would hang in the RPMs before resting to idle. He had to get a new TB :(

What is the IAC? Is this the same problem I may have? Please explain....
Re: Just installed Katech Ported THrottle Body........ (OliverM5)
In answer to the surging issues, look at the Kaltech TB and see if they machined the inner lip of the TB cone. There is a very close tolerence between the throttle blade edge and the TB casting. If this has been machine to far- as previously stated-too much air is passing and the PCM is trying to compensate by raising the rpm's. The only fix is a new GM TB. I had this on my '99 that I owened.

If you have autotap, warm up your car to operating temperature and it should read about 107-111 IAC. Our C5's don't have an IAC motor but we do have a an IAC count.
Quoting Colonel, "The IAC (idle air control) controls the idle rpm. It has a plunger (pintel) that pulls in and out to control the amount of airflow at idle.
If it stops working you'll know it. Your idle won't be exactly the same at all times. "
From, ChrisB "C5's do infact have an IAC count parameter which you can log in autotap.
Though the terminology may not be appropriate in effect you can treat it the same way as if you have an IAC motor. I would surmise that it corresponds to the airflow added by the idle computer (added TP)."
If your TB is letting TOO much air go by at idle then the PCM can't adjust for the increased air flow so you get the RPM's hanging. Look at where the TB blade meets the bottom of the TB, there should be ZERO gap there. If there is a slight gap you'll get this hanging like my brother's TB did.
