Tonight while driving 80 mph down the freeway in my automatic, I felt a bizarre 'shift' sensation from the drivetrain accompanied by the 'check engine' light. I pulled off the freeway to stop the car, so I could see how it felt going through the gears. I accelerated normally, and the shifts were incredibly rough -- like the TC was locked in the cruise mode. I'll be taking it into the dealer tomorrow, but wondered if anyone out there has had any similar experience.
PS I put the 3.42s in about 500 miles ago, and I have been slightly more aggressive than normal; but not abusive.
My money would be on having thrown a slip code. When it sets the TCC unlocks (your "shift"?) and max line pressure is commanded (making for very firm shifts.) Check your codes.

Wow ... that sucks ... it has never happened to me ...
the code should be P1870 and you should only get this code in the highway. normal around the town cruising should never give you this code. everytime you jump into the highway you will have to clear this code manually if you don't get your car tuned to the gears. have your DIC cleared. then hold "options" while you hit "fuel" three times. you will see it go into the diagnostic mode. hit "option" one more time and it will go into manual diagnostic. hit "option" again and clear the codes with "reset"
Your dealer won't warranty this because of the GEARS. Listen to the above post. Go get the car programmed!!!!!! I had the same problem, when the hard shifts come in hang on man is it hard. Superchips makes an affordable program that works quite well. :yesnod:

The code trips under conditions when the TCC should be engaged, including around town speeds. Long shallow incline hills are perfect for triggering this. ;)
Code inspection via the DIC is written up in the C5 FAQ too. :)
Hi there,
It is absolutely CRITICAL that you reprogram the PCM accordingly.
The harsh shifts are due to maximum line pressure, which is demanded when the code sets.
This means maximum hydraulic pressure. This is fine for a default mechanism, however, should NOT be accepted.
Internal transmission failure could be cause if this situation is NOT corrected.

This answers my question in a seperate post also as I am getting this code after the 3.42's and the Yank 3000. So guess now I just need to keep waiting for Steve Cole to finish my re-program. Does anyone know if he can be bribed to get it to me faster? ;)
