Gee, before you go out spending $$, let's see if you can figure out what has happened. Have you checked your fuses? Did you check the DIC for any codes? Has any of these ever worked since you got the car and if so, how long ago did they fail? If you do need a new/different head unit, they're not too expensive for the stock ones. Many for sale here in the for sale section. Also ebay, craigslist, GM Parts warehouse, etc... I've seen them for as little as $25 and as high as $200. Most of them go for about $100 or less. But if you've got other problems, a new unit might not fix.

Yes i checked all fuses under dash and under hood. The only code i had on the dic o2 sensor. I have had the car since 2000, has 55250 miles on it, don't drive it much. sent the display head in for no display in 2006 has worked ever since. It stopped working a couple weeks ago, just now have some time to look at it. Thanks. George

Default works for 1 hour

Went for a drive today and the unit worked for about 1 hour and then shut down.

The display going away is familiar but the buttons not working... that sounds a bit strange. Since this started a couple of weeks ago and it worked for about an hour today, do you think you might just have a bad connection? If its not a connection, then it sounds like something is heating up and once it heats up, it expands and then shuts down. Also could be a faulty component. Here's a link where you can buy a remanufactured unit for $160 and it'll require yours in exchange.

Keep looking on eBay. There are places with great feedback that will fix it for $29.00

Saw those as well, but the OP said the heater and buttons stopped working too. Sounds like more than just a dim display.

Thanks to everyone for your replys.
I pulled out the unit today. Checked the C1 Blk wire and ground was ok. checked the C12 wire (ORN) and it had 12 volts, looks like the unit was getting power. Anyone have any other Ideas. Thanks. George

Still working on this. The connector for the dash unit is a 32 way plug. 16 pins on each side. The "C" side is blk (GND) Lt blue/Dark Blue/M/T/BRN is (C5) this wire should be 7.5 volts with the car motor running, this seems to be the problem this is circuit # 41. Let you know what I find. Thanks. George

Just got my wiring book sorry it took so long to get back. Now I have the fuse box from under the hood out of the car that is where #18 fuse is located and it checked ok with 11.88 volts, but on the other side it goes to E6 and F6 and these terminals does not show any continunity. Has anyone had to replace the fuse box? How does the fuse box come apart? looks like you would have to drill out the top of the three screws that are beveled to get it apart. I am thinking that they have a resistor between the top fuse and bottom terminal because the voltage need to drop down to 7.5 volts at that side. Thanks. George
