trans leak, auto

trans leak, auto

I have a 1998 with a a4 trans. sitting in the garage the trans never leaks a drop. Once I start it and back it out, the trans will leak on the drivway. sometimes none other times a trail. Any ideas? Thanks

Are you sure it is the transmission? What color is the fluid? Can't really help you unless you get the car up in the air and locate where the fluid is coming from. Use jack stands, please.

tue, I am putting on a lift. I know that it is the trans because the trans is starting to slip in reverse when it first starts

does anyone know of any common problems that the a4 has with leaking?

That is far from conclusive. Please confirm color of fluid and location from which is is leaking.

I put the car up today. It looks like the trans pan bolts were all loose. You could almost turn them by hand. Tightened them up added 2qt's fluid and will see. Also the oil filter was loose and could be removed by hand. Changed oil and new filter. I did notice that when the car was up in the air and running in netural, the rear wheels were turning. Is this normal?
