I have had the "red top" optima in a Suburban since 1997 to run a high output sound system (back when that was important to me) and it is still going stong for a buddy I sold the vehicle to. That is with running it down to 0 under high stress at a few tail gate parties (back when those were important to me). The optima survives noticeably longer than a conventional battery. :flag
I bought my Red Optima at Pep Boys for $109.00 plus tax and you get a 84 month warranty. Some one told me Costco sells it for $99.00, save a few dollars if you can. Make sure you get the warranty!!!
I have seen some Optima's with covers.
I heard you could buy a cover from Optima but I haven't had any luck.
Does anyone know where you can buy just the red cover?
I have the Red Optima from a local non-chain dealer for $107.
Interstate Batteries is a distributor for all the brands of batteries made by Johnson Controls. If they don't stock Optima in your area then they should be able to get one in without any problems.
I used a battery tender from Mid America Designs that is a $10-12 device that uses a 9-volt battery to plug into the cigarette lighter that provides enough current to retain all of the computer settings while the vette's battery is disconnected.
Go to their website http://optimabatteries.com and tell them you bought one of their batteries and would like one of the covers to dress up the top of the battery. That's what I did and they sent one no charge :D :D :D
