Default '97 Coupe with ECBM

I will get the dreaded ABS and Traction Control warnings every once in awhile, I reset the codes and the warnings would disappear for a week and up to 2 months. I would pull the codes most of the codes would have the H at the end, except for one (B0432 Rear Defogger Relay Circuit).

Two questions.

I have read that '97s show the warnings, but its not an accurate reading. Just a glitch?

If the above is incorrect. Can the '97 ECBM be fixed?

Thanks

Robert

No the ECBM can not be repaired and new is not available. There are other things that could cause a code such as a poor wheel sensor or a stuck motor that might be fixable.

So...what are the codes? A lot of the traction control codes go to history as soon as you turn the car off.

Finally, the ECBM issue happened. Here are the codes.

P1571 H - Traction Control PWM Link
C1225 H - RF Excessive Wheel Speed Variation
B0432 HC - Rear Defogger Relay Circuit
U1064 H - Loss of Communications with BCM
U1096 H - Loss of Communications with IPC
U1160 H - Loss of Communication with LDCM
C2100 H - Left Front TPM Sensor Malfunction
C2105 H - Right Front TPM Sensor Malfunction
C2110 H - Right Rear TPM Sensor Malfunction

A little history about me, this is my 4th Vette (2 - C4s, C-6 & now C-5, Goal is to have one of each group. Bucket list). I am able to work on the Vette and can do most things (5 out of 10).

Your help is very much appreciated.

I would say check your "grounds". I bought a 97 about 3 months ago, it had been sitting for a while. Seems like the more I drive it the fewer codes I get. I cleaned up some of the big ground connectors . If I hit a large bump or pothole I still get a traction control / abs code. Search the thread about "cleaning grounds". This is a good cheap place to start.I al so show 13.2 volts on my dash, it should be 14+ with the car running. Again this is a wiring issue. I have a good battery and alternator. I think if I run some better ground straps and positive leads to bring the voltage up, the electronics wont be so quick to throw codes. seach "big 3" a lot of info about how the C5 needs better wiring.

All the loss of comms codes points to a bad connection in the serial data link. Common spots where the wiring gets damaged are in the door to body accordions and under the seats. You can pull the rubber door accordions out at the ends and then pull some of the harness so you get a look at it. You should find a connector you can look at too. A search here will get you lots of pics and info on this. Basically, make sure there is no frayed wiring and pull the connector apart and make sure the connectors aren't damaged. There's a little tab or spring in the female end that puts pressure on the male tab and sometimes it gets bent back so it doesn't grab.

I have found that Lionelhutz seems to have quite a bit of knowledge when it comes to the C5. He seems ready to help in many situations. I gave him some $hi# a while back and wish I had not. Lionelhutz, I apologize. Rod
