Hurst shifter install ?
OR
You have to flip it over and pull the rubber up through it backwards and install it upside down. Sounds weird but it does work. You can add a plumbers pipe block with a small hole (for the shifter shaft) over the rubber for a better seal.
I chose number 2 because sometimes I remove the Hurst and go back to stock.
How ever the 2nd suggestion of reversing the close out boot & installing a rubber
I-1/4" or 1-1/2" PVC pipe end cap with a 5/8" hole drilled through the center of the rubber end cap, (for the shifter's shaft to slide through) would & does work great.
I CUT 1 IN OF THE END OF THE SHAFT ( AFTER PUTTING A 9 /16 UNF NUT ON ) AND USE THE NUT AS A THREAD CHASER THEN PUT THE STOCK SHIFT **** ON AND THE **** SITS LOWER AND IS MORE COMFORTABLE, CUTTING ANY MORE SERVES NO PURPOSE AS THE **** WILL BOTTOM OUT ON THE BUMP IN THE BOTTOM PART OF THE SHAFT.

I got the boot on without cutting it, just flipped it over as suggested. I didn't think that would work, but it fits like a glove. I've got the stock shifter (cheap) if you need one after cutting yours up.
