I'm looking at purchasing the vortex rammer and was wondering if the claimed performance increases are true AND if there's a better system than the vortex rammer. I've seen the twin flow and sidewinder systems. Is one of these three really better than the other? Do they all provide relatively the same performance increases?
Also, along with this I was thinking of purchasing the vortex power duct, cold air screens, and hood seal.
Are the screens worth it?
Also, is buying a precut schrod worth it?
Is there any other intake item that would provide additional performance gains?
Will these mods void the warranty?
As always thanks for you input. By the way these will be my first performance mods.
The Vortex is a very good intake and you should see nice gains with it. If you don't want to cut your shroud go with the Blackwing. I don't like the Twin flow split filter designed intakes.
This topic is always a can of worms. Everybody has an opiniion and there are many options open to you.
Personally, I went with a Donaldson Blackwing w/ Halltech Carbon Fiber Airbridge and love it. I also pulled the MAF screen. Results were 319.5 RWHP on the Dyno Jet - Pretty good improvement - over 20HP.
The Donaldson air induction is designed to replace the stock intake on the LS1C5. It has a blue corrugated filter attached to a black plastic base housing. 15 horsepower gains from this unit are not uncommon!

I wasn't able to find the Halltech Carbon Fiber Airbridge. Is airbridge synonymous with power duct? Where were you able to find it?
Hi Rick,
I see you're using the vortex rammer system. Did you see the performance gains that were claimed? Also, are you using the vortex power duct? Is cutting the schroud worth saving $60? Thanks.
Halltech is an Intake supplier out of California, famous for their TRIC Intake products (www.corvetteC5.com). Yes, it is essentially the same part as a Power Duct. I have had experience with several vendors, and asthetically the Halltech is by far the best looking product under the hood. HP gains are debateable, but it sure looks good under there. I have seen pictures in the Mallett catalog with 475 HP packages that utilize the stock airbridge AND the accordian connector!
So, for $300 for a Carbon Fiber Arirbridge, be sure you like the looks, HP gains are still debatable.
