I am told that there are some resistors you can purchase to disable the system. I have changed to coilovers, but now I can't go over 80MPH. I am told of a quik fix, but don't know the type of resistors, where can you purchase them and how do you install them? Anyone near Austin TX gone thru this? My dealer does not have a TECH II

Resistors DO NOT work on F55. The only way to disable the F55 is with a tech II. Time to start calling other dealerships.
Procedure:
1. Hook up the Tech 2, turn the car ON, make sure the module in the rear is plugged in. DO NOT UNPLUG THIS MODULE
2. Now use the Tech 2 to delete the F45 option ( F55 option does not appear on the Tech 2 menu screen - SO - DELETE THE F45 OPTION
3. Save the new configuration
4. DO NOT TURN THE CAR OFF DO NOT REMOVE THE TECH 2 Go to the module in the rear of the car, unplug the GRAY connector - IT IS THE WIDEST ONE - leave the center and smaller black plug in.
5. Turn off the car but LEAVE THE TECH 2 PLUGGED IN
6. Remove remaining plugs from module in the rear of the car
7. Now the moment of TRUTH - Turn the car on and verify that the dreaded - MAX SPEED 80 MPH - is gone
8. Unplug the Tech 2 - Get in the car and take it for a ride.

Assuming from your id, if you have a C6, you may be better off to post in the C6 forum. On a C5, the F55 option has to be programmed out. The resistors are for the F45 system.

Haha, nice catch! I didn't even see that.
I agree, post over in the C6 section, they'll know which resistors you need

I have a 2006 C6 VERT, PDL SHFT and PWR CONVT TOP, but I also own a 2003 Burgundy/shale 50th ANV CONVT w/the Selective Ride, which is the one that has the Pfadt coilovers and the 80 MPH limit issue... So I appreciate the sharp eye, but I needed help from my C5 friends, and I really appreciate the HELP fellas... Harry

In that case, you will need the tech 2. Resistors don't work for the F55 on on the C5

This is true. I used the TechII method to get F45 removed on my Y2K. Took less than 15 minutes to get it done. I'm a bit puzzled by a GM dealer NOT having a TechII in-house, even though GM has switched to the MDI...

Keyman, you realize things might have changed in the decades since the threads you're dredging up were written?
There is a PM function if you really feel the need to reach out to thank someone from decades ago.

If your dealer doesn't have a Tech 2, look elsewhere. Never heard of a dealer not having one, especially a GM dealer. Maybe its not a GM dealer. Dont know what year your C5 is, but there was a time that nobody could figure out how to tune out the F55 on the late '03-and the '04 models. It's a bit different procedure on these models, but it can be done.....
Just saw the post dates. 12 year old thread. Wow......

hey friends yes will use PM function forgot.
amazing my 2004 Vette didn’t encounter this after 20 years.
I didn’t wanna pay $300 to a dealer and then have it go back to factory settings when battery dies, and pay again, as have had parasitic draw problem too.
the FOXWELL NT512Elite for $150 scanner.
Thank God for the 12 year old threads to drudge up or I’d be screwed lol.
appreciate everyone sharing their “Tales of Woe”.
my wife is encouraging me to sell the vette and get something more reliable , but I think finally taking the time to really learn mine will be worth it. Sorry for coming late to the party. Ive had my C5 A4H 15 years. I’ll never be a star mechanic if like you guys but do enjoy learning while rocking the keys. Rock on 🎹
12 year old threads can be, and are, beneficial a lot of the time. BUT-Starting a new thread for your specific needs will usually get more responses. While on the subject of 12 year old threads.......Sometimes newer and better/easier workarounds have been discovered since 2012. A good example is the SWPS. It was still available new back then, but has been out of production for many years. Used is the only game in town now. But back then someone may suggest checking the dealers for anyone who may have one. Redundant solution now. Just saying......
