Default 2002 Front Emblem Needs Replacement

Hello Folks. The front emblem on my 2002 coupe needs replacement. Does anyone know how to get to the backside of the two pins that hold the emblem on? Thanks!

My 04 repair manual says that the emblem is glued on and the holes are for alignment purposes when re-installing the new one.

From Helms 2004 Emblem Replacement - Front Bumper Fascia

Removal Procedure
1.1 Use tape to protect the surface during removal
1.2 Use tape to create alignment marks for installation of new emblem.
2. Using a heat gun, heat the emblem
3. Apply heat for about 30 seconds using a circular motion -keeping the gun tip about 6" from surface. (time will depend on the heat output of heat gun)
4. Use a plastic, flat bladed tool (Small plastic spatula available at Home Depot etc), remove the emblem from the the panel surface.

Installation Procedure
1. Heat the mounting surface to approx. 80 - 105 F
2. Ensure the emblem temperature is 85 -90F
3. Remove the protective liner from the back of the emblem, but do not touch the adhesive surface with your fingers.
4. Install the emblem to the locator holes in the fascia.
5. Apply equal pressure along the emblem to uniformly bond the item to the mounting surface.
(brackets are my comments)
Hope that works for you.

Dave

I pulled the nose off my 99 FRC for a paint job. The emblem on mine had 2 studs that went through the the two holes and had two "speed nuts", holding them on. I'm not sure how you can get to them with the cover on the car.

My 03 emblem did not have any nuts on the studs. Three hints on removal. 1) It is going to take more than 30 seconds of heat to get the glue loose. I had to work several minutes of moving the heat around before it came loose. Work on a relatively small area, get it done then move to another. 2) Use mono filament fishing line to work between the emblem and the car nose. Any type of spatula is too thick and you risk scratching the paint. Wrap the line around a dowel or something similar on each end of the line and use a sawing motion to work through the glue. 3) Once removed there will be a big difference in paint color where the emblem was located. Thoroughly clean area prior to installation.

I went and looked at my 2004 convertible. It does not have the emblems, but the only access to the speed nuts on the emblem, I could see would be to remove both of the close out panels underneath the fascia. (these are the access panels to changes parking light bulbs and fog light bulbs, they fasten to the front of the inner fender liner and the fascia panel). It will still be quite a reach to get to the emblem location but it should be visible. You have to have the car lifted to even see the location, I use a homemade set of ramps for that purpose, built from 2X10 spruce planks selectively cut and fastened together in a ramp style pile.

my 99 came off with Fishing line & buffed out, I did not re install one I don't like how it retains water & its a pain to wax around, I'll shave the holes when I do a touch up on the paint

Thanks for the suggestions on how to remove the emblem. I got the emblem off my 2002 Vette and there were no studs on the back of the two emblem alignment pins so all work from the front of the car and no climbing underneath!

Try this

http://stores.ebay.com/yatesperforma...p2047675.l2563

Apparently the rear does not have the pins, so it can be used in either locations, but I have not installed them personally. Yates has them for $19.95

I bought my front one about 2 weeks ago from GMPartsDirect new for 71 and some change shipped. You can check ebay which usually has a ton of rear emblems, but I didn't see many for the front that were cheaper.
