Engine Knock
Today was the first time I ever heard my engine knock. I keep 93 octane in it, so I was racking my brain why it was knocking. It could be only heard intermittently during hard acceleration. After wondering if I should get the engine analyzed I realized it was about 90 degrees outside. Anyone think thats the problem?
Higher temps will make it worse! Try a few more tanks of gas or some octain boost and see if it goes away. If it's still there, you may need to tune for more fule in PE mode.
I've also heard that new plugs can help! Not sure if this is true.
Hi there,
There are a few different reprogrammings for the computers for spark knock issues.
Also, there is some revised diagnostics for the condition.
There is a newer bulletin, however, it is if there is a check engine light.
I would take the car in, and have it checked.

Is there a definitive test or procedure to determine the presence
of psiton slap? Several times to my dealer and some tell me they
hear the noise and others don't. The last visit the service manager
says "That's a can of worms you might not want to open."
Okay, that's may be right, but after 9000 miles, I'm getting tired
of hearing this noise. And it doesn't really go away. It may minimize
depending on the temp but is always evident, at least to me and my GF.
I was at a show last weekend and heard a dozen (all years)
c5's and not one had the similar noise, slap, knock...Whatever.
Though I don't really want my engined torn apart, but I would rather get to
bottom of it and fix it. Again, my original question...Is there a real test or
is it merely subjective.
