I've got an order in for the Donaldson Blackwing for my 1999 coupe. I'm by no means a mechanic, and was curious if the install was difficult? Is the instructions for the install good? Are there any tips for making the install go smooth? I'd appreciate any help.
It helps to have a little silicone lubricant on hand for the four rubber grommets you'll have to deal with (two on the snorkel, two on the airbox). Not a requirement, but helpful....
I have a word document with pictures of the install and instructions if you want it I'd be glad to email it to you. Made it a breeze for me. The file is a bit large however, just drop me a note if you want it.
Anyone can do it. All I needed was a screwdriver and a little lube.
Don't be afraid to apply a little muscle in getting the old box off of the nose of the car. Save the rubber grommets.
Some of us never got the Blackwing to seat properly into the tabs of the radiator shroud but it doesn't seem to matter if it seats there or not.
It's actually a fairly enjoyable task I thought.
Aside from driving it, what's better than playing with it? :)

I even pulled the tabs on the top of the radiator cover off, so I would not have to worry about it. It should take you 5 to 15 minutes...tops. Your beer won't even have a chance to get warm before you're done.
Thanks for all of your advice so far. I have another question to go along with my first one. Isn't there some kind of "re-learning" that the engine has to do after you install the air intake? How difficult is it to do, or do you even have to do it? Thanks!
There is a relearning process that you can do, but it is not necessary. The car itself is constantly relearning, so just by driving, it will be relearning.
