I just picked up my 2002 Z06 heads from the dealership and man these heads need some work. From the factory these heads leave alot to be desired as they need alot of little work to make big horsepower.
What the heads need?
The bowls need alot of work from maching and casting that is left over. Short side of the runner going into the valve seat is ok but needs alittle work. The runners have alot of casting bugs that can be cleaned up as well as some humps that need to be reduced for better flow characterics. Exhaust side of the head really just needs to be cleaned up and polished.
I am going to take some pics as I go porting the head to shed some light on this mystery. I talked to the machine shop earlier today and the owner seemed very excited about working on my heads again. I am going to drop them off next week to get a 5 angle valve job and mill the heads .030. I picked up another die grinder from sears last night for 89 bucks just incase my takes a dump. All in all I have roughly 1700 in the heads + 120 for the porting tools and bits. I'll keep everyone up to date. Cheers!

I'm real interested to see as many before and after photos as you care to take. This is something I've been thinking about doing with my LS1 heads, but lately, I've been thinking of doing the exact same thing you're about to with Z06 heads.
Please let us know of any gottcha's you encounter as you work on them.
