Default Safe tranny temps with T.C.?

Guess I never really noticed it before so not sure where it needs to be. After the converter install I watched it on the drive home and it got up to around the 215 degree range with normal driving.
So what is normal and acceptable with a torque converter? At what temp do I need to start worrying?

Thanks in advance.

I was hitting 150 nitrous at 168 MPH on the way to Vegas working aver a ZO6. Mine got to 236 and Oil was at 245. I now have oil and trans coolers in the nose (fog lite cut outs). I ran another vette last night on the way back from San Diego and hit 135 MPH several times. He was interested in how my nitrous hit. My trans was at 192 and my oil was at 186. I you run hard try to keep the trans between 180 and 200. I have a thermistat that allows the oil to cool after 180. I have 2400 stall and 390 gears.

I have no idea, but Yank recommends one with any T/C installation!

HI there,
As stated above, a cooler is an absolute necessity when modifying a automatic equipped car.
Ideal temps are around 175, however, you can see 250 without worry about oxidation, or fluid breakdown.
Its when your temps get to 270 that problems will occur.
Normally, I will do a fluid exhange with synthetic Dexron 3 for those whom modify their automatic cars.
Besttoyou, c4c5 :chevy

After my TC install, I added a Hayden (aka Pep Boys) cooler on the shroud with a large hole cut in the shroud under the cooler. In city driving around Dallas in 95 degree temps, the fluid temp runs 185. Cutting a hole in the shroud helped cool the cooler better.
