Default AC Compressor/orfice/acc change tips??

Well I am gonna take on the Task of replacing my AC in my 2000 Corvette.

Last winter I was installing my headers and cracked the pressure line at the fill port. So I ordered a new compressor, accumulator and orfice. I am also going to have the line repaired.

Does anyone have some tips on doing this job since mine has been contaminated I’m sure.

Also is the Oil PAG 46?

Thanks for any help.

Jay

Well I have a better idea now after watching some youtube videos. Ive built motors and never worked on AC lol

Now Issues, I went to drain the compressor and nothing came out, I did get a little bit out of the accumulator bit not enough to measure.

Also when I pulled the condensor line a tad dripped out.

How do I go about filling these to proper specs?

Anyways as an update. I cannot believe people are pulling there water pumps and making a mess. I yanked out my Compressor and accumulator in less than 30 minutes.

I pulled the passenger side manifold and the compressor came out no problem! worked out good anyways bc I was pulling the started and it gives alot more access with the header off instead of droping the mid pipe.

Luckily I sold my headers a month ago. I wouldnt wanna go through all that work to pull the header for this.

There's a great writeup in the DIY Sticky. It worked for me.

Tips: Vacuum it down overnite or longer if you use the flush solvent.
Keep the R134 can warm as you work. Use a bucket of hot
water or rest the can above the headers.

The oil capacity is 9oz. My new compressor came over full so I drained it down to 3oz. I was a little lazy and put 6oz of new oil in the accumulator. The shop manual says to spread it around:
comp-2
cond-1
evap-3
accum- add 1 to what came out

Yes it is PAG 46, check the AC Delco web site they have a lot of good information. The hardest part is getting to the bold on the back of the compressor. I ended up buying a 13 mm with swivel and got to the bolt from underneath with extensions. I also used Rocco's AC procedure to help me.

I ended up getting everything needed from Rockauto minus fluids/tools.

$310 shipped to canada for Compressor/orfice/seals/drier (all Four Seasons)

Bought all the Pag 46 and R134 local

I ended up taking the passenger manifold off and it make life WAY easier this way. No need to take off the water pump and bleed the coolant etc. Took me about 30 minutes to get all the AC components out, and about 20 minutes to put it all back together with the new parts!

Gonna evac the system tonight and fill it.

I finished it up last night, seems to be good. i cant get an accurate reading on the High side since it was -11*c last night. I heated the garage up bit but when I started the car I had to open the door obviously.

It seems like it blows colder with the AC button on than without at least lol.
