Ok firstly I have searched the forums with somewhat inconclusive results - I did find a rather grainy old B&W picture that didn't help me too much as it looked like the whole shaft had been taken off the car. I would rather not have to do that and am hoping it can be dealt with without resorting to removing parts from the car.
I did try using lithium spray where I thought the picture looked like it was required but it didn't make any difference.
The squeak/squeal sounds like it's coming from the wheel itself but I could be (probably am) wrong on that.
Any suggestions - in particular if anyone has had success dealing with this could you please post some pictures of exactly where you squirted the lithium spray.
I had the same problem with my 98 a few years ago. The car was at the dealer for some other work so I had them take a look at this too. It was the rubber donut in the firewall. The work order said they removed the windshield washer tank so they could get down in there and spray some lube on it. The squeak has been gone ever since. Seems easy enough. Good luck!
