Is it possible to pump up a collapsed lifter without replacing it? I'm running the Cadillac GM racing lifters (88958689) and one of them started making a lot of noise recently. Pulled the valve covers and sure enough the #6 intake rocker had a lot of play in it.
The lifter seems to be intermittent too. While driving the ticking sound will go away and return every 5-10 minutes.
I had just put the stock cam back in to pass emissions, the ticking started about 500 miles after that, thoughts?
If it is a stuck lifter you can inject ATF into it by forcing it down the push rod. I was successful after over reving my 00 SS vert with a shifting error.
Let it set overnight and put it back together the next day and it was fine. In your case you may want to check to see if the lobe on the cam is ok too.
