Default Transmission problems!! Help please

I have a 2001 vette, I had a bad transmission from the prior owner not installing a short throw shifter in correctly, so I had it replaced with a used transmission I got from a Junk yard. It was the cheapest one with the least amount of miles on it. It was in a front end collision so I had faith there wasn't going to have much problem. He said I can guarantee the gears but I cant guarantee the rings.

So I had it put it in, soon after driving, it was popping out of first gear right as I began to accelerate, the dealer said it was because the aftermarket shifter is what is causing the problem, so I had a stock shifter put in.

But it is still popping out! It does not pop out every time! Its almost like I am not getting it in gear all the way and then just slips out...or I keep wondering if the ring is just bad in first gear? So has this ever happened to anyone? or am I just not getting it in gear all the way sometimes?

Did the shifter get aligned? I've found the best way is to forget the pin and just keep playing with it until you get the holes the pin goes through to line-up when the shifter is at rest in neutral and the 3-4 gate.

First gear in my 98 is spotty too. It works if it feels like it just clicks or slides into gear but if it feels like I had to force it then it might jump out of gear. Slipping into first when it rolling seems to work the best or else I might have to clutch out and in and try again. In my case it's just getting worn, it's got >150k miles on it, and I have a feeling a previous owner might have caused damage to first somehow.

Been there did that. Contact RPM in Anderson IN. They are pros. Fixed my identical problem. Mine also would slide out of 6th gear. They call it a " Refresh ". It started at about 90,000 miles. 99 coupe now has 140,000 miles and tranny is still like new.
Good Luck !

Yes, All new 1st gear, Bottle gear, Main shaft, syncros,Replaced paper with carbon, and plastic with forged machined bronze. Further, new 6th gear. Reassembled with white gloves. ( joke ). The tranny was never as smooth as it now after 40,000 added to the speedo. Drives like a new car. I am a totally satisfied customer.
