Anybody know anything about this?...I'm driving around a curve where there is a stop sign up ahead, so take it out of gear and coast up to the stop sign. As I'm taking the turn, the steering wheel locks up on me and it gets real hard to steer, luckily it wasn't a sharp turn and I rolled up to the stop sign. As soon as I stopped the car just shut off. I reached down and cranked her back up and she ran fine...ANY THOUGHTS
I'm afraid it'll happen again and the turn will be more sharp.
actually i had this happen to me last week, coming around a slight turn at 120mph. It scared the hell out of me, when the steering got tight so quickly, i tried to rev it and notice the car died, so i started it, and slowed down. everything has been fine since, but its still in the back of my mind.
Had the exact same thing happen to me last week. I did not know what the hell happened. One minute driving down the road the next minute the car is off. No stutter nothing. I put the car in neutral started right back up and everything has been fine since. Really weird. I am thinking it might be aliens, but I have been unable to confirm. oh btw I have the column lock bypass
Hello,
Same exact thing happend to me three weeks ago. Mine is A4 and all
I did was to slow down a little and it died.
I couldn't get a strait answer from the dealership as to what they did.
But from what I can understand, one of the plugs went bad and so the
computer was compensating for that so the excessive lean situation
caused my engine to stall.
Who in the world knows what the hell happened. I am really concerned.
Strange this seems to have happened to others. When mine did this it just died without warning. It was very odd to be driving one moment and then no power the next without any warning. I stick by theory had to have been aliens. :(
I spoke with the dealership...they actually seemed concerned and scheduled for me to bring it in first thing in the morning. I asked them what they planned to do...they said there was a fix for it and it would be $450 if it wasn't under warranty (I'm glad it is).
I'll let ya know if it works...I've heard it doesn't.
I don't think it was the engine stalling...I was running around 50mph, instead of downshifting, I just let it coast. The engine stayed on, I just couldn't steer. When I finally got to a stop, the engine died. Then I cranked it again.
I thought maybe a drop in voltage caused it (electric gremlin), but all my guages looked right. The fact that I was turning makes it seem like column lock. I guess I'll see when I get it back from the dealership tomorrow.
my problem, has actually gotten alot worse. the car died twice one me yesterday on a single trip around the block. i have replaced my plugs recently, is there a code or something to look for if a plug is bad?
my car is presently at the dealer due to the same problem. I just drive down the road and if I am in 2nd and starting to rev her up she then stalls out on me. Then it just got worse on the way to the dealer the freaking thing stalled out on me 15 times (dealer is 45 minutes away). amazingly it is hard to get a chevy dealer to do possible warranty work if you did not buy the chevy there. my car would not turn over at first though then fired up. Dealer as of right now has no idea what the problem is. stated they need my car for a week and won't give me a car. :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad
You need the column lock bypass. Do a search on this forum as there are a ton of answers.
Your stating misinformation dude... Nothing to do with the column lock  If you don't know don't guess for it could cost somone money they need not spend...
Look at the codes on the DIC. How is the dealer diagnosing a fix for $450 over the phone without even knowing what codes were thrown? You could have a sensor failure that throws a 1415 code for AIR valve that might you leave unable to start or only operate in reduced engine power mode.
