Thanks, that will save me money. I find I am spending a bunch of money on this so called "hobby".
I did pick up some chrome lug nuts in the mail this week. They look sharp. I had lost 3 of the cheap looking plastic caps already (on wheels that I had not touched yet!), so the chrome lug nuts look great.
Is the column lock actuator the same on an 01 as on 97-2000? I ask this, because in the service manual for the 01, the actuator is shown as a motor (perhaps a servo motor or gear motor) and it seems to have to be 'moved' to lock and unlock with a signal from the BCM, grounding one side, and putting hot to the other (one way for lock, one way for unlock). It would seem that this would make it difficult for it to lock while moving, unless there was a total system glitch, and the BCM actually pulled one side to ground, while putting power to the other. It doesn't appear that anything short of that would cause it to lock. Perhaps the earlier design was some sort of solenoid that had to remain powered to stay out of the lock position? In this case, I could see how a short or open on the solenoid, or a power (or ground) loss at the solenoid could cause it to fall back to the 'neutral' position, which is locked.
Unlocking is a different story. My 01 vert would not unlock last week, complete with 'service column lock' on the DIC. Happened from startup, though, and the car shut itself down when we tried to back it out of the garage. 45 minutes later, it did unlock, and we drove it to the dealership, where they replaced the lock module.
I don't have an early manual to compare schematics to.
