Input Driveshaft HELP!!!
i bought my first vette a few months ago a 1999 c5 coupe with 75000 miles from an army guy. took a ride in it and everything was fine had small mods you know cold air intake and stuff but it had an issue he didnt tell me about.
i guess there was an issure with the driveshaft the couplers on each end wore out and the driveshaft was wobly. well while i was driving it it didnt make noise or vibrate nothing. i was driving it down the highway and shift form 3rd to 4th then a grinding noise like a missed gear is heard. i drove the car back with the noise and parked it i thought the clutch had gone out. the noise sounded like metal on metal contact. so i had the clutch replaced when i had this done the shop said it wasnt the cluth it was the driveshaft they said because of the wobly shaft and the couplers being destroyed it ruined the input driveshaft that goes into the back of the motor. they called corvette and they gave the shop a quote for almost 3700 and with labor is almost 5grand out of pocket. i can find a driveshaft and couplers but I NEED AN INPUT DRIVESHAFT i cant find one anywhere i cant even find a package like the one corvette is trying to sell me. ive heard the gearing changes throughout the years of the c5 im not positive if this is true but any feedback is appreciated
Thank you
New input shaft - GM $650
Labor to RR both - Any reputable shop $1,000
Total $2,000
Just did this 2 weeks ago. Had the input shaft overnighted up from Reno.
I believe all the stick shift torque tubes are interchangable.
I'd offer my old one but I have an auto trans and they are different.

Good advice.
FYI, the input shaft is held by the throwout bearing at the back of the engine and a single roller bearing at the front of the torque tube. You can expect it to have some wobble once you pull the torque tube off the engine.
Got any pics of the damage?

Make sure the shop puts a new "Pilot" bearing in the flywheel crankeshaft hub AND make sure the shop uses a puller to remove this bearing as there is a oil plug at the back of the crankeshaft hub. Before you go buy a TT, inspect your TT by removing the drive shaft and inspect the couplers/bearings. Note if you get a TT from a bone yard you will have to tear it down anyway (drive shaft removal, inspection etc) just to make sure it is serviceable.
If you could post up pics of your "pilot bearing" throw out bearing" and TT input shaft it would be helpful.

This is for the 12mm input shaft, which is what my car has. Look on ebay there are several torque tube assemblies on there. The bearings and the couplers should be changed.
