Went to start my 2002 Z06 the other day after sitting for the past month. My battery was dead so I jumped it with my jeep and it started after a few minutes. I noticed a "service column lock" In the DIC. I've read a few threads here and some say its from a low battery situation. I ran my vette for several hours after I jumped the battery and was able to turn the car off and restart it several times, but the "service column lock" is still on. Does this mean I have to replace the battery or will the display go off after several cycles of driving the car.
Any help out there fellas?
I had the same problem a couple of months ago with my 02Z06. After charging the battery (Optima Redtop) it was at 12.5 v. I kept getting the service column lock. I bought a new DieHard Platinum with reserve capacity of 130 that was recommended here and still had the same problem. I finally ordered the LMC5 and haven't had a problem since.
I was getting the column lock message after having my intake off. There is a post in the "sticky" section that says the steering lock can get out of synch with the BCM. I think mine must have done that because I had the key in the on position when I reconnected the battery. The sticky says to pull the #35 fuse for 10 seconds to reset the BCM, and also check the #37 fuse. I pulled the #35, but it didn't fix the problem, so I pulled #35 and #37 with the key in the off position, the steering lock message went away. Perhaps your battery running down may have caused something similar. You might give it a try before you start spending money on modules. (I'm going to see if I can find the post again to double check if I'm remembering the right fuse numbers. I'll repost if I necessary.) Am I the only one with failing memory?
I was wrong about the fuse numbers, (I was right about being wrong, though!) I'LL paste the info here;
A1 Sometimes the latching relay in the CLB can get out of sync sending the wrong status to your BCM. This has happened to a few folks even with the CLB installed. The CLB latching relay gets out of sync with the BCM possibly due to shock, vibration or relay contact bounce during switching which confused the BCM. The CLB does not physically know which state it should be in; it only switches from one state to the other when it receives a signal from the BCM. The BCM can be reset by pulling Fuse 23 and waiting 10 seconds.
A2 Check to make sure Fuse 25 in passenger footwell is good.
A3 Verify the black wire to your ECL or CLB is grounded (zero ohms resistance).
A5 Verify the green wire to the ECL or CLB is shorted to ground while in the "UNLOCKED" position and pulled up to +12Vdc while in the "LOCKED" position.
A6 If you get the "Pull Key and Wait 10 Seconds" message but no "Service Column Lock" message, it can sometimes be a symptom of your security system and related to your key pellet.
Hope this helps.
