Default Researching 317 casting head replacement.

I'm in a tear down phase and have been for almost 3 years (long story) as I am 99%certain the drivers head is cracked inside one of the intake or exhaust ports. So while I'm still tearing down I'm researching replacement heads and found NEW 317 castings at gmpartsdirect for just over $600 for a pair.

My question today is.....since the c6 came out, is there a better replacement head I can use instead of the 317?

And all things aside, I realize I will have to have some intense work done on these new heads to match what is currently on the car. So if there is a better head out there that may not need as much port work, then I'm all ears!

And yes, the car currently has 317 casting heads on it now. And is a 408 iron block ( in case that matters)

I can't say that I have, but now that you mention it - I have new questions.

how do I know all my ports will mate up - FAST 90 intake and Kooks long tubes (i thought i read somewhere about D ports on certain heads or something)
pardon my ignorance, I've been out of the game and going through some of my older posts I realized i USED to be a lot smarter about my cars!

LSA heads would require a different intake manifold, correct?

I can't say for sure but I do believe they require a LS3 style intake manifold. Go into the C5 FI section, Arun is working with LSA heads for this FI build. They talk highly about them so far.
