Default Installed MGW shifter

Just installed the MGW shifter and MGW race ****. This thing is infinitely better than that crappy turd of a stocker. Install was pretty easy, except for the dust boot. I ended up just pushing it below the first bellow on the shifter and leaving it there. Got tired of trying to force it down below the other one. Went for a drive afterwards and man is this thing tight. EXTREMELY short throws compared to what I'm used to. Was going to do the anti-venom mod as well but I think I'm going to end up leaving it as is for the time being. George and company make an awesome product, as I had one of their F-Body units a few years ago. So if anyone is thinking of pulling the trigger on one of these, you won't be disappointed.

When I installed mine I almost didn't want to put on any boots and cover up the beautifully machined and finished parts that make up this shifter. And it really works great!

Same here. It is a great looking piece. I was apprehensive at first about the race **** but I am very happy I went with it.

I've had the same set up on my car for the past 3/4 years. The tightness will change as you use the shifter. The 1-2, 2-3 and 3-4 shifts will be super smooth as you use it. As far as the a-v mod, I recently tried it and did not like the results and took the washer out.

I might try the anti-venom mod this summer after the shifter has had time to loosen up, but even with the tightness, I like it the way it is. Definitely a customer for the rest of my days as long as they have a product for my application.

Our definition of a "super smooth" shift must differ greatly. MGW is a very knotchy. Not really the shifter's fault so much as the transmission shift linkage design.

You're right. Our opinions do differ. I really don't feel any thing "notchy" in my shifter. YMMV.

Using the stocker I am having a hard time finding 2nd at high rpms. Even the dyno tuner was having a tough time doing a 1-2 shift at redline. I have a C6 shifter. Would the MGW help with that?

The MGW definitely centers itself easier than the stock piece. Not sure why your tuner was redlining shifts on dyno pulls . Time will tell for me but other guys should chime in with more experience.

It really is a damn shame that they get covered up by the shift boot and console. They are a work of modern automotive art.

Good choice to go ahead and replace the box. The bushings and the rear seal on mine were pretty haggard. Dry rotted and warped, just the way I like it.
