Ok guys need some of the horsepower experts here. I dont really want to do anything drastic to get more horses, want to keep good gas mileage. But in mytinkering on my 01 with almost 80,000 miles I have done the following and have been told the horsepower increase- You guys can tell me the truth!!
New ac delco iridium plugs +3 horses
New Livewire plug wires +3 horse
K and N filter +2 horse
Gatorback serp belt 0
Throttle body air duct +4 horses
Come on guys, quit being rough on him. I would say maybe 2 hp because of the filter and smoothing out the air flow with different air duct. Although back in the day K & N use to say like 10 to 11 hp with their filter. But seriously, probably not a noticeable difference.

Thanks for giving me a break Chris- always just changed the oil and drove. Just enjoying tinkering.
Depending on your definition of drastic, look into LT headers a free-er flowing intake (vararam/honker/blackwing) and a dyno tune and you'll add 30-40 hp......

Thats more tinkering than I want to get into. I was impressed with myself that I got off the abs module and changed the plugs and wires along with the drive belt. Thats about as deep as I want to go.....maybe belt tensioners
Its a tune that you need now! This will wake the car up and ensure you are running at peak efficiency. This can get you more power and better fuel economy. There is performance locked away in the stock transmission too. Some tuning can give you better shift points and pressures, (if its an A4).
Funny, but true. There's not much that adds power till you tear into the engine or add forced induction.
A real tune could help.
fyi: I lost 1 mpg with heads, headers, cam, intake, injectors blah, blah, blah... Don't let the mpg scare you off. when picking the cam, stick to the medium/agressive level with descent LSA segregation. I've got a medium 222/226 0.600 115LSA..and it stll puts 412 to the ground.

Listen to this guy. I think he is absolutely right.
I put new wires, plugs, and a Blackwing air filter on my car. I have a Z06 muffler but I really don't believe there is any gain in power from it. I did a couple of other things that some may disagree with like a 180 deg. t-stat and a throttle body bypass. The tuner believes they are worth the effort. I also changed all of the fluids and filters, belts and idler and tensioner bearings and cleaned the maf. Then had it tuned by a pro.
I took it to a not so local drag strip and had 3 runs under 13 seconds in a basically stock car that just made a 2 hour drive. The best run was a 12.87 @ 109.99 mph. My car is an automatic with the 3:15 axle ratio. I did nothing to the car before I ran it down the strip. I didn't even heat the tires. Oh yeah, some people consider non run flats to be a performance upgrade. I have Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus. I'm not sure they add much as far as acceleration goes.
I feel that we have taken advantage of all opportunities as it is so the next thing would be to start changing parts. I'm good for now though.
