I just had my Stingers installed by a local muffler shop (I would have done it myself except I didn't want to cut the stock pipes), and I'm having some trouble getting the tips aligned the way I want. The tip on the driver side is about where I want it, with a finger's width or so clearance under the bumper. The passenger side, unfortunately is nearly touching the bumper. I tried loosening the band clamp and twisting the muffler a bit so that the tip was further from the body-panel, then tightening the clamp back down. That seemed to get it, until I drove the car a bit... at which point the passenger side tip had shifted back up a bit again to almost contact the panel. Anyone have any suggestions that I might try to get these lined up?
I don't know if it matters, but I did notice one possible anomaly. The rubber hangers were so stuck on the stock exhaust that the guys at the shop took them off the car to get them off of the old exhaust flange. Since the rubber mounts were off the car at that point, they just slid them on the Stinger hangar mount and when they mounted the Stingers, they bolted the rubber hangar back onto the car at that point. Given how far the hanger piece on the Stinger extends through the rubber holder, I don't know that I could have mounted them any other way.
I am having a hard time aligning mine perfectly also. It seems to be the only glitch. Next Chevy oil change I will have the Tech try to align better. They sound so good that I am not that bothered by the alignment.
I did mine myself and they are perfect....the bolts that connect the rear muffler assembly to the pipe over the axle are the place to do the adjustment...it helps if you have 2 people. Loosen the clamp and move the assembly up and down then have the other person re-tighten the clamp while you hold it in place. :yesnod: :smash: Good luck
First of all: I love my Stingers :D :D Here is my experience:
Mounted them, aligned them, everything seemed perfect. The hangers were not in the middle of the rubber, they nearly touched them, but I didn´t really think about this.
Drove the car very hot on autobahn and the following happened: the system elongated, the muffler moved backwards, on top its held by the rubbers, there is no possibility to move back, the only way to move is rotating upwards. Besides this the over the axle tube hit the rear compartment. There were some loud noises.
Had to take the system out completely, put it beside the OEM system. They differ a lot: the main point is that the over the axle tube is not bended enough, so it is too far to the back, that´s why the hanger contacted the rubber and the rear of the tube contacted the rear compartment.
Went to a shop, heated the tubes and bended them. So the end of the over the axle tube was nearly 3/4 inch more to the front. Result: the tube no longer hits the rear compartment, the hanger is sitting right in the middle of the rubber, system can get longer when heated without making any problem.
That took me from 6 to 9 in the morning, $15 for bending and I´m happy again.
My problem is that the driver's side sticks out about an inch farther than the passenger side. I haven't had a chance to get under the car to check it out, but does anyone have any insight that might save me some time?

This is due to the fact, that the over the axle bow is not bent enough. Same on my car, look at the thread above. I bet that your hanger on driver side is nearly touching the rubber instead of sitting in the middle, that means: too far to the back.
IMO the only solution is to take it out, heat it and bend the downgoing part of the "over the axle tube" to shorten the distance from flange to the opposite end where the clamp is sitting.
Take a look under the car, check hanger and rubber and check if the the "over the axle bow" is very close to the rear compartment. Do this after you drove the car, because when heated, the whole system gets longer!
Yup, I saw your earlier post; that's exactly what's happened. The tips are so freakin big that you really can't tell they're off unless you look at them from the side, so I'm just going to leave them until they really start to bother me. Thanks Frederik!
Same problem with my corsa.....for what its worth I think its impossible for any exhaust to stay at one location for the duration unless you add multiple hangars. The pipes are long and somewhat flexible as even hitting them with your hand can mis align em. Enjoy the tunes they produce and dont sweat the small stuff
