As some of you know I just got my TR224 ;). I started the cam install today in my parking lot. I drained the coolant, removed the throttle body, coil packs, valve covers, rocker arms, push rods, radiator, fans, water pump, front sway bar and the alternator.
Tomorrow I'm gonna remove the ABS bracket, steering rack, pulley, timing cover, oil pump, cam and install the new TR224 Cam, Cam Doctor Specs:
224.2/224.3 .563/.564 111.9 LSA :D , Katech timing chain (C5R version), ARE Blueprinted/Ported oil pump, Comp Cam 918s and Chromemoly pushrods.
Sunday I will re-install everything, fill her up with coolant, load up the new LS1Edit program (increasing the idle and rev limiter to 6800 RPM :yesnod:) and fire her up :D
I have taken pics and will post them as I go. It's not too bad at all.
C5Noir, we started the install of my ARE solid roller H/C package today. Specs are cam: 640-640/ 236-236/ 112lsa. Heads are 208/160 LS6 ported for solid roller. I'm fine with the mechanics, but I don't know how to tune with my LS1-Edit. Is this thing going to crank before any programming? I've got a list of new parts going in too: LS6 intake, TPIS headers, SVO 30#'s, Vararam, etc. I'm also still trying to program my 3:73's with the new 1:05 version of LS1-edit. Any insight???
Well, I must say I hate the steering rack. It took me at least 45 minutes of prying to get it free from its passenger side mount. After that it came out pretty easy. I get the cam out, new cam in but ran into a problem as I was putting the timing sprocket on with the new Katech chain. I had the sprocket lined up dot-to-dot with the chain on but as I was tightening the timing sprocket the teeth moved out of dot-to-dot by about an 1/8" or less. I fiddled with it forever and stopped for the day. I'm gonna get a piston stop to make sure it's still at TDC before I proceed. I don't want my timing to be off and have to TEAR this car apart again, it is NOT amusing to say the least.
I put the new oil pump on for kicks and it's really easy to put on. I'm gonna put the springs/retainers in today and worry about the timing issue on Monday. I think I'll probably degree the cam in to be 100% sure.
Does anyone have any advice as to how to double check to make sure the motor is at TDC with the timing sprocket off? I think a Positive Stop will do it. Any and all comments are greatly welcomed.
