Hi all,
I've got a problem I hope you can help me with. I just had 3.46 gears installed in my 2002 A4. They replaced the 3.15 that came with the car. Prior to having the gears replaced I had Ed Wright reprogram my pcm. He did a great job, by the way.
The problem is that today I went to the strip and hit the rev limiter between 2nd and third gear. Evidentally the RL is set at about 6200 rpm. At least that is where the car faltered. I made two runs and the same thing happened both times. The car pulled very well through first and second gears but when it went to shift into third the car faltered. It was my understanding from some other posts on this forum that there should not be a problem when switching from 3.15 to 3.46 gears.
The question is, has anyone else had this problem? And, if so, what can I do about it? To be sure I will be contacting Ed, but I would also appreciate your advise as well.
I changed from 2.73 to the 3.42 initially I did not install the new program. Hit the limiter every time I got on it hard. New program raised the limiter up to 6600 rpm problem solved. Talk to Ed he will have to tweak the program. I am however suprised that when he did the initial program he did'nt raise the limiter.
I did the change from 3.15's to 3.42's with no problem. However I have STOCK programming. I'm sure Ed raised you shift points when he did the first reprogram and thus your hit the limiter now. I t should be quite simple for Ed to readjust to the new gears rather than go back to stock 3.15 code.

Apparently the reprog done by Ed Wright must of raised the factory shift points. When you went to the 3.42's it raised the shift points even further... making it hit the rev limiter.
I have 3.42's in my A4 and am still running with the factory 3.15 program.
My WOT shifts happen at 5900 to 6000; just short of the rev limiter.

My rev limiter was also raised to 6600 when I went from the 2.73 to 3.42.
I run 3.42's in mine. The shift points are controlled by speed (although you can program via rpm). With the lower gears, your mph is up compared to the rpm, hence your hitting the rev limiter. You need to have the WOT shift point speed for each gear lowered to cause the car to shift earlier. Find a shop with LS1 Edit.
