Fixin' to change my spark plugs with AC Delco iridium plugs 41-110 and MSD black wires.
Anything I need to know before I do this? From what I understand the plugs are pre-gapped from the factory so do I need to check them first or simply trust the factory and put them in? If I understand what I've read the gap should be .040. If they are not set properly - return or adjust?
Thanks
Note: 99 Vette with 73K with stock motor and it's my DD
you can gap , there is a special tool you need for those plugs . Get some anti sieze and a double swivel plug tool . I used the same set it worked well .
On the driver's side do you need to remove that air diaphragm and hoses. Seems almost impossible to get to the plug underneath it and the last plug closest to the windshield.
You dont need to remove anything-
I was discouraged at first but somebody on this forum told me to take getting the plug wires off get needlenose pliers and a small pry bar. The first two plug wires took an hour but after reading that it went much faster. Getting the plugs out go slow and easy with numerous extensions. Putting the plugs and new plug wires back on are a slow and easy process too. You also have to re-gap the iridium plugs mine were wrong so I re-gapped them also. re-gapped to .35
I thought I was in over my head to be honest but it got easier as I learned how to twist and the best angle to position things. Just take it slow and easy and dont get mad or discouraged and it will go easy!!!
Thanks folks. I did as suggested by many, take my time. The plug nearest the driver's window was the hardest. Actually had my neighbor come over and help me get that one out. I used a long nose set of needle nose pliers for the wires and they were fairly easy. Actually, most of the wires came off in my hand. I'm thinking there lies my problem.
The plugs were NGK so they had been changed before. But the wires were shot. Putting plugs back in was easy compared to getting them out. Once everything was back together and I was sure wires were tight on both ends, I fired it up and not a hic-up. She ran great. After a bit, I took it out on the road for a test run and WOW did that little chore wake this puppy up. I'm glad I suffered through it.
Here and on the "revised" post everyone is VERY helpful. Thanks!!!!
