I want to upgrade to Bilstien shocks on my C5 but would like to hear opinions and comments from Bilstien users if you guys would! What Bilstien shocks should I get first of all. I have an 02 coupe with Z51 and have upgraded the wheels and tires to 17x9.5 fronts and 18x10.5 rears with Goodyear F1 Supercar tires! Any suggestions? Comments appreciated! Thanks!
I just sold a pair of take off Sports off Nates 99 we put them on drove 30 miles on them and Nate traded for an EB 02' Vert we sold them at a good discount other people may have passed off as new.
I suggest if your running runflats you wait period you will notice 0 differance. If your running real tires with a Z51 pack(great package) go with the sports especially if it is or will be lowered.
We have them on SALE during our June fire sale. The web site is not updated I believe on some sale prices so call or write for a deep discount.
If you want superb handling and 8 way adjustability I run a 250 mph 427 Twin Tubo LPE and do alot of cornering Im not a drag racer but they act great in that arena as well.
For optimum handling on Z51 I adjust frts. to 8 and rrs. to4 its hi speed confidance is felt immediatly. For drag racing 1 in front and 8 in rear this allows the front to raise and transfer weight to the rear wheels for optimal weight transfer and the rear 8 setting will keep your rears FIRMLY planted to the pavement.
Ive ran them for 2 years now and to adjust takes 1-2 minutes per shock.Once you get used to it its 5-10 seconds per shock.I'm a Koni freak they win more races than any shock on earth and are resonably priced and IMHO opinion better than HALS and Penskes.
Just a suggestion from someone that truly installs and risks his life on suspension components many times a week. For pricing give us a call or mail us see sig.The Best Of Luck.Dave.
How about for a '99 coupe with base suspension. I'm just getting involved in lap day events- I want improved handling, but I don't want a super harsh ride. My runflats have 23k on them, so they're getting replaced this month too. How about a tire recommendation as long as I've brought it up?...
I have the base suspension and went to the bigger Michelin Pilot Sports. I then added Bilstein Sports. I now consider this probably as good a suspension as you can have for all around driving. I've even autocrossed it twice now. Perhaps at an expert level, the Z51 or Z06 would be better, but I have done very well against Z06's and Z51 cars, and it feels great to me on both the street and autocross tracks.
Glenn, while I don't have direct experience with the HD's, I'm guessing that with your Z51 setup, they would not make any difference, where the Sports will. I highly recommend the sports.
Thanks for the advice Jim. I'm going to look into both the Bilsteins and the Pilots. Any thoughts on the Goodyear Supercars?
Well, I'm going to do something that may get me docked points on the forum, but here goes. Instead of just saying what I have is the greatest, I'm going to take a more rational approach. I have Michelins, and really like them. But I have driven Z06's and read many articles. I think the Goodyear Supercar tires are probably as good, at about $300 less for a set.
The main reason I did not get the Goodyears, is that the ribs on the sidewalls cause your tire dressing to build up between the ribs, and fly off all over the side of the car the first time you drive it. The Michelins have small ribs, but for whatever reason, they don't throw the crap all down the side of the car. Several friends agree with this, BTW. I also will admit that I just wanted to have what I consider a "world class" tire on my car, as recognized by many major manufacturers - the Pilots are standard equipment on many of the worlds premier sports cars and sports sedans. But I would not hesitate to recommend the Goodyears, and save a little money.
