I've had this car for a few months now. I replaced the original shocks and in taking a look at the suspension, I noticed that the rubber bushings on the front suspension are trashed. They're dry rotted and a couple are almost ready to spontaneously fall out.
I'm a complete newbie at this. I've always liked to do my own work and replacing the shocks was an easy job. What will happen to the suspension without the bushings? If I am to work on them, do I replace the bushings, or do I need to replace other components of the suspension? I have no intention of taking this to the track, so maintaining a reliable part-time daily driver is the intention.
You have to replace the A arm to get new bushings from GM. You could always do polly bushings, but it will bind and squeak in no time. Just replace the A arms you need.
I tightened up my emergency brake today and got another look (at least at the rear). The sway bar linkage seems to be the main culprit in the rear. Here's what I mean...

if they fail. you car will lean more when you turn. throw away the plastic ones and put in the metal ones. its easy to do. there is a set at the back of the car on the rear sway bar also.
The deterioration you are seeing on the sway bar end links is the rubber dust boot. The boot covers the ball joint in the link and keeps dirt, etc. out of the moving parts. Your links are probably trash since there are no replacement covers available that I know of. The newer GM links are made of metal instead of plastic and are a good upgrade. Get them from Gene Culley at GM parts house - forum vendor. Good service and prices from Gene. Swap out should take you an hour max on jackstands.
