Re: Considering a solid roller setup. Your input appreciated... (Scott97)
I believe you would also have to go with a set of adjustable roller rockers in order to use solid lifters and camshaft. It just allows you to go with a much more agressive cam while maintaining drivability.. I think you could get an extra 10-15rwhp out of a solid roller setup.
I am sure you know about setting the valve lash every 5000miles or so as well. Not a real big deal.
If you do go this route, you may also want to look into going with a set of aftermarket aluminum valvecovers that will clear the larger roller rockers.

read all about it here:) http://www.ls1tech.com
Primarily F-Body's, and a kind of small site, but the most tech info I've ever seen for our engines :smash:

and, the parts you speak of Scott, are not cheap! Its alot of money for little gain but sooner or later, you runout of the basic mods, and the cheap mods...

Kiss your knock sensors and attendent electronic engine controls good-by. I've yet to see a knock sensor that works with solid lifters of any kind. In this day and age, solids are "race only." Good luck!

Hmmm, I have a 1996 396 LT4 solid roller we built in the shop right now. Knock sensors are in place and working fine.... :)
DRM C5,
Have I spoken to you about Solid roller conversions before? I do not recognize the ID? :) We do have a pretty good explination of the advantages and disadvantages of Solid rollers on our web site under "Tech". Let me know if it helps. Maybe that will motivate us to write a few more articles. :)
Scott, Don't just look at peak power gains. You torque curve will go through the roof! Your HP will follow suit! And lastly, the fun factor in driving your car will follow!!! There is a bit of cost associated with this, but being the best and the fastest was never the cheapest option. ;)

Just wondering how it would affect my daily driveability.
I'm interested, but I'm not looking for a race only application.
