I have upgraded the brakes on my C5 once before, it was a basic necessity upgrade ,
drilled/slotted rotors
good pads
SS brake Lines
SS caliper pistons
Good Fluid.
I'm looking at stepping up another level in the not too distant future.
I already have 18" wheels the options I am considering are
1. C6z06 brakes w/ aluminum hat rotors.
2. Aftermarket Big brake kit completely open to options here depending on price and performance.
Would love to hear others opinions especially those who have already done said upgrades.
Are you upgrading for the track or just show with occasional canyon runs?
I run my '01 convertible on the track and went to C6 Z51 brakes with non-drilled (plain) rotors, S/S lines and Motul 600. I swap out the pads to Carbotech XP10 (f) and XP8 (r) the weekend before each track day. The drilled rotors develop fine cracks around the holes when used hard.
I'm real happy with my Wilwood 6 piston fronts with the radial mounts. Remove two small nuts and the calipers slide off and rotors. No more big brackets to remove just to change rotors. The pad material is .8" thick so there is a lot of meat on the front. I still run stock rear calipers with H pads. The front kit from LG Motorsports was arount $1,500. Much less than a BBK, but you do get what you pay for. Just my .02 worth.
Good luck on your search.
I plan to hit the track a couple of times a year, few times with autocross... and my few canyon runs can be pretty brisk at times, with a few of us in the deep country that will do a few hard runs... I've not ran out of brake yet.
I am not a fan of drilled rotors, they just came along. ideally i'd just do slotted rotors.
I just bought a set of stoptech's--havent been to the track with them yet but i have always heard good things about them. They are overkill unless you are really pushing the car on a long track that requires a lot of braking.
