I have been getting traction control/ABS error messages and thanx to this forums topics traced the problem to the right front wheel
speed sensor. Last nite I removed the wheel to closer analyze the wiring harness and discovered a broken wire. It seems there
is a plug connection sending the signals from the wheel speed sensor back to the computer at each wheel. My broken wire appears to
be right at the base of the hub and there is not extra wire to reconnect it. I don't know what the wire connect to at the senosor. The dealer tells me the entire sensor is sold as a unit, very expensive. Has anyone had any experience removing the wheel speed sensor and can give me an idea of the procedure? Anyone know if, once it's removed, I can just add a length of wire to re-attach it at the split?
It is easily removed from the hib/bearing carrier. If there is any wire left exposed, one might be able to strip it back and solder the harness back on. You will need to use some type of strain relief so it dosn't break off at the solder joint, maybe a big blob of RTV silicone rubber. Or , call a vette junk yard, like Contemporary Corvettes (Bristol PA), and see if you get a used sensor for a reasonable $.
You are probably screwed. These parts are rare and expensive. I would attemp to solder the fitting in place. The cars come with a strain-relief sensor from GM, but they often aren't installed correctly.
