2003 aniversary convert, head up display will come on as it should but will light up entire display and flash. happens at random times. any ideas on the fix for this issue?
the display will light normally for a period of time, then all of the characters of the display will light up with full brightness and begin to flash. the dimmer has no effect while this is happening and I am unable to turn the display off.

Mine does basically the same thiung, but appears to be temperature sensistive. Steve Hoten told me to remove and replace it. What did you do with yours. Mine has not got to the point I want to replace it yet as it works ok until the spring temps get to Arizona and then it will cycle through once in a while. Some days it gets serious other days it never occurs.
I have not repaired the issue yet. I think I will check out the switch before I go for the replacement of the h/u unit
It definitely is a component failure, but yours seems to be same as mine, intermittent. If one could get at it when it is working and put direct heat on the individual components cycled with cold, it is usually easy to identify the failing component.
Cyclic failures like this are almost always a weak electronic component and likely always the same item.
I will wait until mine fails completely.

Apparently the only fix is to replace the hud. Fortunately it is still available from GM. I found it at gmoverstock.com for less than $200.00. Probably something I will look at over the next year. It is about a 3 hour job to replace.
Mine is still working - mostly - so not yet a must do.
Mine did the same thing yesterday, but it was the sun. The sun hit it just right to reflect in the mirror or something and lit up the entire display and flashed. It stopped as soon as I got under some trees.

Mine is definitely temperature sensitive, sunlight on a hot day will set mine off. I am sure I could get a while longer out of it if I ran a 1 inch cooling hose from the AC to it like we do in aircraft avionics to keep them cool.
Hopefully, you don't have a problem developing, but they all start that way at some time.
Good luck
Dave
