Default did i pick the right cam

02 z06 tsp long tubes, tsp 3in catted x, k&n cai, borla stingers. i have the tsp 233/239 cam kit (not installed yet). i love how much bottom end the car has with my current mods, but i am afraid the 233/239 will kill it. car is not going to be raced just street fun for me, but i do want the choppy idle. do you think this cam will affect the torque down low to much? thanks

you could have gotten a choppy idle with a milder cam and lower LSA. thats not a huge cam like a Ms4 but it is going to require a good tuner.

The dyno will tell... But ya, its definitely a high end horse power cam, not low end torque.

Default It'll be ok...

I have a '98 6 speed C5 with similar bolt ons plus a set of ported LS6 heads and intake, including a cam, lifters, pushrods and springs swap. The cam is a 54-446-11 Comp Cam with a 232/234 duration at 50% with 112 lobe separation. Since my Vette has a manual tranny it was easy for the tunner to find the sweat spot to have it iddling just right. It is very streetable and heavy footed. Although your cam is a little higher it should be fine. Just needs to be tunned right. Have fun with your new setup!

I too have an '02Z. That cam'll work fine with your mods. It'll have a good rock'n idle @850RPMS. Expect to have a new clutch in you're future.

that's probably a hair higher than i'd personally want to go as i say ~230 duration/600 lift is my mental maximum, but i dont see it being an issue. it'll be damn loud, smell of gas, and be as much of a sleeper as jumping out of your window and screaming your mods list at people, but it'll be fun. if you've never driven a big cammed car, they're a whole different beast.

I had similar cam before in my LS6, actually it was slightly bigger. Trust me, there's plenty of torque down low to get you going. With a good tune I think youll really enjoy that cam.

I just installed this same cam and Texas Speed headers on a friend's 2002 Z06. After I tuned it with HP Tuners it had very good street manners with a ton of new power. Once Mark adds some cut-outs in the exhaust it will surely turn a lot of heads at cruise-ins. Congratulations on your 435 hp build.

Great results! Thanks for the update. IIRC, that cam is the same as the Texas Speed TQer2.

You will lose some lower end power with that cam...what a lot of tuners do to make it look like you don't is to start the dyno roll at a higher RPM :-/

Here is my cam dyno results:

Came in at 426 RWHP and 401 RWTQ

The mods for the baseline run were XS Power LT Headers, Ported 78 mil Throttle Body, LG big breather and air bridge, with LS6 intake manifold, stock 1998' 806 heads and cam, and lightweight 40 lbs clutch assembly....no tune.

The "after" results are with AFR 205 heads, LS6 Intake Manifold, Ported 78 mil TB, LG big Breather and Air Bridge, XS Power LT's, and a 223/227 610/613 114 +1 LSA cam with LXL lobes....basically we added the cam and AFR Heads and speed density tune ;-)

The whole build was designed to make a torquey fast fun daily driver....We put in a 20 lbs heavier LS7 clutch assembly between the baseline and final tuned pull which caused us to lose 10-15 RWHP & RWTQ across the curve, and if we put on a Fast 102 with bigger TB we would gain another 20 RWHP & RWTQ across the curve, and would probably peak at close to 460 RWHP and 430 RWTQ WITH THE fast and lighter clutch/flywheel.

From a cam spec standpoint, we probably left 10 RWHP off the peak but gain 20-30 RWTQ down lower in the RPM range, including around 20+ RWTQ gain all the way down at 2200 RPM.
