It would be much easier if you were on a lift. I removed my 2 cats from my 2000 Black Bitch Coupe and used a pair of O2 Simms ($89). Lost bottom torque and gained top end "pull"............. :yesnod:
Take care not to plug up the main cats with debris - thus countering what you are trying to accomplish.
Wet the catalyst and insulation with a hose before chiseling. I used a shop vac output connected to the muffler end to blow particles away from the main cats. Use a respriator, particularly if you use forced air.
FYI - I later removed my main cats. Big mistake - only 2-3 hp on a 425RWHP vehicle, lots of smell, and lots of resonance.
